Celebrity, Inc.: How Famous People Make Money
From ,000 tweets to making money in the afterlife, a recovering gossip columnist explores the business lessons that power the Hollywood Industrial Complex
Why do celebrities get paid so much more than regular people to do a job that seems to afford them the same amount of leisure time as most retirees? What do Bush-era economics have to do with the rise of Kim Kardashian? How do the laws of supply and demand explain why the stars of Teen Mom are on the cover of Us Weekly? And how was the sale of Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie’s baby pictures a little like a street drug deal? After a decade spent toiling as an entertainment journalist and gossip columnist, Jo Piazza asks the hard questions about the business behind celebrity.Celebrity, Inc. review. /div>
Make no mistake: Celebrity is an industry. Never in the course of human history has the market for celebrities been as saturated as it is today. Nearly every day most Americans will consume something a celebrity is selling—a fragrance, a sneaker, a song, a movie, a show, a tweet, or a photo in a magazine.

Very cute, tiny change purse. That is a AA battery I used for scale. It is solid, no rips or tears. Inside is a clear tag that says; Celebrity Inc. NY New York. Including the snap enclosure it is almost 2 3/4" long and about the same size across the widest part. Fabric is cloth, and appears to be embroidered. I found no rips or tears inside or outside. Inside lining is plastic and the enclosure is metal, as is the opening area.

This lucite box was made by Celebrity, Inc., of New York in the 1950s. The cover is entirely covered with rows of pearls in variegated sizes. It appears to be made in one piece to cover the entire cover, which is white. The rest of the box is an off white with grooves up and down around the 2" round box. Measures 1 1/2" high. Someone wrote their names on the bottom with ink!!! I worked to remove it but it appears to have soaked into the lucite. That is what is showing in the fourth picture but it is not through the box. No chips and would make an excellent trinket box. Please convo for all Int

China, Inc.: How the Rise of the Next Superpower Challenges America and the World
China today is visible everywhere -- in the news, in the economic pressures battering the globe, in our workplaces, and in every trip to the store.China, Inc. review. Provocative, timely, and essential -- and updated with new statistics and information -- this dramatic account of China's growing dominance as an industrial superpower by journalist Ted C. Fishman explains how the profound shift in the world economic order has occurred -- and why it already affects us all.
How has an enormous country once hobbled by poverty and Communist ideology come to be the supercharged center of global capitalism? What does it mean that China now grows three times faster than the United States? Why do nearly all of the world's biggest companies have large operations in China? What does the corporate march into China mean for workers left behind in America, Europe, and the rest of the world?
Meanwhile, what makes China's emerging corporations so dangerously competitive? What will happen when China manufactures nearly everything -- computers, cars, jumbo jets, and pharmaceuticals -- that the United States and Europe can, at perhaps half the cost? How do these developments reach around the world and straight into all of our lives?

What will happen when China manufactures nearly everything -- computers, cars, jumbo jets, and pharmaceuticals -- that the United States and Europe can, at perhaps half the cost? How do these developments reach around the world and straight into all of our lives?
These are ground-shaking questions, and China, Inc. provides answers.
Veteran journalist Ted C. Fishman shows how China will force all of us to make big changes in how we think about ourselves as consumers, workers, citizens, and even as parents. The result is a richly engaging work of penetrating, up-to-the-minute reportage and brilliant analysis that will forever change how readers think about America's future.
China has the world's most rapidly changing large economy, and according to Ted Fishman, it is forcing the world to change along with it. "No country has ever before made a better run at climbing every step of economic development all at once," he writes, in China, Inc.: How the Rise of the Next Superpower Challenges America and the World. China is currently the largest maker of toys, clothing, and consumer electronics, and is swiftly moving up the ladder in car production, computer manufacturing, biotechnology, aerospace, telecommunications, and other sectors thanks to low-cost, high-tech factories. China is also where the world is investing. In 2004, for instance, the city of Shanghai alone attracted over billion in direct foreign investment, roughly the same amount as all of Indonesia and Mexico received. In tracing China's ascendancy over the past 30 years (with annual growth of an astonishing 9.5 percent), Fishman presents a flood of facts, figures, forecasts, and anecdotes and examines the implications of this unprecedented growth for China, the U.S., and the rest of the world.
Calling China's huge population "arguably the greatest natural resource on the planet," Fishman details how hundreds of millions of peasants have migrated from rural to urban areas to find manufacturing jobs, providing an unlimited, low-wage workforce to power China's economy. In the process, this shift has changed both Chinese culture and the global business climate in significant ways. Simply put, American companies can't compete with wages as low as 25 cents an hour and lack of regulation and oversight, so are forced to move their operations to China or completely change the focus of their business. And it's not just a problem for the U.S.--even Mexico is outsourcing to China. Though it remains to be seen whether this will truly be the "Chinese Century" as Fishman asserts, China, Inc. is a brisk and informative look at why so many American corporations, and American jobs, are heading to China. --Shawn Carkonen

Until recently, though, the tools for doing so were blunt at best, laughable at worst. Now, corporate leaders' toolboxes overflow with different gear that can enable them to engage with their employees, to communicate the firm's strategy, and, equally critically, to listen as well as talk tools that again make possible the technology of conversation. This is a significant advance in the ability of a leader to lead. While the conversation powered organization sounds terrific, it's also terrifically difficult to pull off. What are the tools, exactly, and which should you use when, and how should you deploy them? The conversation can't be one-sided, and it can't be inauthentic, and it must remain focused, or the whole enterprise can come crashing down. In Talk, Inc., Boris Groysberg and Michael Slind not only provide logic of their big idea the necessity of making your organization conversation powered but also assess and evaluate the tools available, from new-fangled social media to the old-fashioned walk-around. They also offer a framework for how seeming oxymoron of corporate conversations should work, and talk frankly themselves about how to avoid the pitfalls that come with opening up your organization. Drawing on the examples of successful companies and their leaders from around the world, Talk, Inc. will help every leader achieve the alignment their company needs while making the workplace a little more human.
